The John G. Shedd Aquarium’s Department of Learning Planning & Evaluation synthesizes learning research, develops evaluation plans with Learning Group staff, and assists with data analysis and interpretation for education programs. The Research Associate’s primary responsibility is reviewing literature, both research-based and practitioner-based, and synthesizing these findings into comprehensive research narratives. These narratives are used by staff members in the Learning Group to help them determine their suite of experiences and instructional strategies. Depending on the topic of the research narrative, other departments at Shedd Aquarium may also use the narratives for strategic planning purposes. The Citizen Science Research Narrative describes the different approaches and best practices for the implementation and evaluation of citizen science programs. It includes the different approaches to citizen science that have been implemented, documented outcomes of citizen science programs, documented methods of evaluating citizen science programs, how citizen science programs align with Shedd Aquarium's Learning Framework, and gaps in the research that could be addressed by programs at Shedd Aquarium in the future.
